Greeks Go Mad in Switzerland Part 4
Game 4 versus Duncan Richards with list #8, Makkan, 699BC (Saba).
To say this game was a bit of a non-event is probably overstating the degree of excitement. Amongst the exciting things that happened were:
Me putting down a waterway in an attempt to reduce the amount of 1.5 FE size pieces Duncan could deploy.
Duncan getting a H(S) in his forward central sector, and filling it with Ax (I). Also then narrowing down the game further with more terrain.
Me attempting to flank march the command with my 2 Naval elements in it - and Duncan assuming (I guess reasonably) that it was going to be on the flank with the waterway - I had planned that it wasn't !.
Us both getting very confused about this, calling the umpire, trying to find out in the rules what happens (the only bit that covers it is where it says that if there is NO access to the table, elements onboard naval units are deployed instead on land) and mostly failing.
Me suggesting that as the command was unreliable anyway, and there was no real hope of a resolution to the game, that it could come on at the back of the table next to my baggage.. which we both were happy with, as it was late in the day, and our brains hurt.
A Dust Storm then effectively stopping movement for about half the game - which meant that the command which was unreliable, but had just rolled a 6 to come on, actually didn't roll any dice for its move onto the table.......because unreliable commands don't dice !
Duncan's theory of bringing his psiloi back through 3 ranks of Bd(F) to tee up a blade attack crumbling to dust as he realised that his Psiloi now couldn't retreat through the three ranks of blades, as they were too far in front to get back in one turn ...thanks to the Dust Storm.
Me delaying this attack even further by wheeling my spear line so as not to be disadvantaged by the Dust Storm.
A bit of amusing mucking about on the left with my auxilia taking on some psiloi, but then finding themselves up against a mix of bedouin and non-bedouin camels, but that was about it:
However, in the meantime the rest of the team were giving their opposite numbers a pasting, so whilst we ended up with a draw, the team won !
Hoorah!
