Pulling The Plug Out! |
Well, we came 2nd - with Khmer The scores were 10-0 (vs Crusaders) 5-5 (vs Hungarians) 10-0 (vs Parthians) 5-5 (vs the damn Abbassids) Well, we basically got to 30 with 2 mismatched games (El vs Kn (O)
and El vs Kn (X)), and 2 tough games (against Hungarian and Abbasid -
both excellent fun, swinging back and forth games) and in the end we
only got stiffed by the rules-based "random result last-round"
scoring system, as we lost 1 and 2 elements respectively in our 2
10-0's, (which the others definitely did worse than!!!), but our last
game was a bloody command each 5-5 against the Abbasids. We nearly held
out for a 7-3, but lost the CinC's command (eventually, and admittedly
deservedly!) on the last roll of the game, edging ahead with 25% losses
to 27% . The other team on 30 had a non-game, with a Spartan army
deploying in a steeply wooded pass next to a WW against a Patrician with
no Wb(S), so they both called it off after less than an hour, with a
couple of EE lost each side, so the Spartans had it. Highlights (& lowlights) were ... vs Hungarians - (Mick) losing the CinC's command, but then (me) re-taking the Hungarian CinC's command with a Ps (I) - who 6-1'ed 2 ranks of double overlapped spears in the penultimate bound vs Parthians (Mick) only losing 2 elements - the CinC and the El (X) - 48ap !!! - but in the last bound, so no rolling necessary!!! vs Abbasids (Me) losing 2 elephants to 6-1's, but catching the Abbasid CinC after an element-of-intervene allowed an auxilia to get round a pinningposition and inflict a fatal recoil into his flank. The biggest p*sser was that the eventual winners had had their 2
10-0's in their first day (one against Phil Barker's Ancient Brits - to
which they MUST have lost some troops!!!!!) and spent the second day
with two defensive match abandoned non-games where they dug in and
didn't even try to play - and still ended up above us!!!
