Ths game saw the brave Germans facing some ungodly Muscovites (or Cossacks, or something like that)
The enemy were a biggishline of tiny people with guns and probably heavy weapons or swords. Either way they were Zvezda Russian Strelets figures in 20mm, giving the Germans an innate sense of superiority
The German plan was simple - rush forward and engage the enemy at close quarters on the basis that the entirely MF Cossacko-ruisskians would crumble away. The Sovietski-kazakian horse were also not really up to scratch compared to the German Vorsprung Durch Technic Kurassiers
Even in the camp the old women were thinking about marching forwards past the local doctor and joining in the fighting.
The Germans lurched forward rapidly, and in a moment of extreme competence unusual for a this many pints downed stage of the afternoon, swung a unit of Kurassiers from the right round behind the line of Foote so they too could partake of some carnage and ride down MF in the open
Things were going swimmingly,no doubt helped by the immobility of the opponents army
Other than one odd and rather disturbing gap in the German lines, the army was already forming up nicely and thinking of the last few moves into charge range, and beyond that, whether to go for bhaji's or chicken pakora for starters with their curry that evening.
This is not a wierd perspective shot - the German troops really were far bigger than their 20mm opponents.
The only enemy unit looking unlikley to engage the enemy was a Later Tercio, which may give some of you an opportunity to reverse engineer the origins of the army. Early Russian in 1598 maybe ?
The enormous Warlord Games Kurassiers clattered into some Zvezda Russian Noble Cavalry.
Suddenly the two lines of troops closed up, apart from one unit facing the Kurassiers. Either a new rule had been invented allowing them to incline backwards, or the potentially Early Russians had moved up, perhaps even to get into Arquebus range ?
There was loads of fighting everywhere, as a battle plan borne of too many pints of local bitter swung into furious and violent action.
Musket barrels the size of tree trunks barked away into the faces of the tiny plastic slavic peoples, as they replied with close range pea shooter fizzes and pops to try and dent the hard plastic buff coats of the onrushing Germans
Looking along the line you can see that the Russkiano-Poliacks were starting to lose bases at an alarming rate, as Wallenstein himself joined one of his better units in a battle they would probably win anyway
The proud Russians stood as tall as 20mm figures possibly could in the face of undeniable evidence of what a better funded public school meal system can do for juvenile physial development
The Russians were melting away under the heat of the German attack.
Even the Kurassier unit got involved as it pursued into the one unit yet to be engaged on the Russian side. And then it was all over
The Result is a Crushing Victory for the Germans.
Post Match Summary
Well, there are no easy games in this league and I've got to give full credit to the Muscovites for coming here today and putting in a very good performance. It's always difficult for team like us when we have what looks like a better army on paper, as there's no pressure on the other team and they can play with less inhibitions but as everyone knows the game isn't played on paper, it's played on chipboard (or sometimes hardboard)
In the end our greater quality counted, and we were a different class. In some ways putting these theoretically easier matches to bed is as important as getting a result in the bigger games against the bigger nations, as once you get to the business end of the competition a win is a win, and no-one will remember where each point came from.
They were a hard team to break down, and put all their men in front of our army, but overall the real winner tonight was Wargaming, with everyone involed and the whole team playing their part.
The next game is going to be really important as from here on in we start getting into squeaky bum time. But I'd rather have the points on the board than games in hand.
Hannibal's Post Match Analysis
Tho claimest a great victory, yet I see nothing in this win save a paradeground march forward, and a mismatch at the point of contact. This is barely cause for jubilation, and indeed, maketh me worry that the seductive dame Hubris awaits in the wings
Your men have barely broken sweat in claiming this hollow victory, and yet your confidence is reaching out for the very heavens themselves
Let us hope your wings of victory are not fastened with wax, and that the flight sunwards up the table brings them to the point of melting
Roll on the reality check is what I say
- Game 1 vs Swedish
- Game 2 vs Poles or something
- Game 3 vs Samurai
- Game 4 vs Swedish Again
