Hollyoaks Doubles Game 3
After a rather late and strange night out in Hollyoaks city, where we learnt the following:
- Never try and go for a Thai meal in a group of 23 in a restaurant that only seats around 25
- The good burghers of Chester are not over-blessed with late night drinking establishments
- The Nightclub Bouncers of Chester have not yet woken up to the fact that "shiny shoes" does not equal "not a psycho nutter"
- The population of Chester is not that similar to that shown on TV (TV below)
Game 3 saw us in Rus vs Rus fest against Nik & Dave |
Unsurprisingly we deployed in a long line of Spears. The Poles lurked on our right (bottom of the shot) using their bowmen as overpriced Psiloi to hold a wood on our flank. Facing 3 Rus commands and a small Pecheneg ally we were at a spear disadvantage so would have to concentrate on two enemy commands before their weight of numbers could tell.
Fairly early on in the game the enemy Pecheng tried to do a sneaky round the side move.
But in the middle the originality of thought was not even up to "plan A" standards
The Polish Spearmen cowered at the back, daring the Rus to expose a flank or two and come and get them.
Soon there was nearly 3 feet of clanging metal as the two battle lines clashed
The two waves of men surged against each other relentlessly
On the left things were radically different.... oh no, sorry, wrong report.
Soon Rus were carving a deep wedge into the enemy as brotherly love traded placed with ropey old dice throwing
Long columns of men trudged back and forth to fight
The Enemy Rus Of Evil made a dash for it and clattered into the Poles, as their light horse attempted to catch out the exposed Rus Loyalists..
But the Sp (I) boys stood firm as only they could be expected to in such a game...
Deep columns of spearmen were pushing forwards relentlessly, and were being overwhelmed on both sides. Finally, with both armies teetering on the brink of total defeat, there was one last rush of dice, and the Glorious Chalice of total defeat was firmly grasped by us !
Lost 10-0 (but could easily have been 9-1 to us)
Post Match Analysis
Well - what can you say. Lots of Spear on Spear action, and the men with most spears won. It was kinda exciting, and given our disparity in spearmen it could have been much worse.
