Nice carpet!
French Style & Sophistication
Paolo looked rather unwell after losing his baggage to my naval attack
Many of us have played the famous game Settlers of Catan, and its variants. However I personally would draw the line for this particular edition based on simulating the movement of partly digested food items through the bowels of a 16th century ships cabin boy.

Aaah! Amazing!
Roman Road - great baggage from my 2nd game - almost eaten by an elephant as well !
Conclusion
Certainly the classiest location for any wargames comp I've ever been to - and Cannes in Feb has a surprising number of cheap hotels, decent restaurants at acceptable prices serving nice food (hmmm - seafood soup - hmmm!). The venue, as part of a large games fest was great, loads of space, and a impression of being part of something that people in Sourthern France take seriously - which is rare !!
Big thanks again to Franck Brock for organizing the whole tourney - even if the rules were a bit complicated - and to Stephane for partnering me at the last minute. As usual, 4 good hard fought games with no quarter given in each. Sorry to anyone who didn't understand my French - and Steve Payne, who had to endure me attempting to speak it to everyone we met - I honestly didn't say anything to anyone derogatory about your shirts in a language you didn't understand !!!
The basic idea of the format worked really well I thought - having to use 2 different armies certainly made life very interesting, and it would be a shame not to keep some element of that for next year, as there is talk if making it straight singles.
My on-the-plane-home thoughts were to have an "A" and an "B" player in each team, who would always play the "A" and "B" player from each opposing team, but still each team still has to use 2 different armies (from book 1/2 and 3/4) twice by each player. Then the decision each round is whether to use the Early or Late armies with Player A or Player B. And keep the joker, because its a hoot !
So, great, look forward to it again !!
Bonne Chance!!
