Your Ass Goes Here...
So, we found ourselves sitting pretty on 19 points after day 1 - in second place no less. Having suffered no substantial ill effects as a result of traveling to Nottingham and attending a stag night, drinking solidly from 6-30pm until 3am, going to a club and driving back with Mick in his car (enough to make most people feel queasy on it's own), life was looking up.
What could possibly go wrong ...?
... we thought to ourselves?
Well, we were facing a Sargonid Super-army - our first encounter with Knights - and nasty Knights as well, Kn (S) chariotry - plus hordes of technologically advanced wheel-less Cv (S). But, we were attacking, and hopefully we could pin them back, and channel the Spearmen into dead ends in the terrain.
Because they were probably useless on table, and would act as a Knight-magnet our big foot command was sent out on a flank march.
Initially it all looked good.... even our flank march was on our right - ready to come on and fight its favored enemy - Cv (S), with the Knights tucked up against our Kn (S) in the center. Even the Skythian ally was unreliable....
Fantastic!
Amazing!
Unbelievable!
Astounding!
Oh Dear Oh Dear...
Things rapidly progressed from good to better, as the LH were indeed forgotten - thinking my chariots were Kn rather than Cv (S), they stayed in place - sensing easy first blood, and a huge gap possibly opening up in the Sargonid lines, we charged in. And got bounced. Well, there's always next bound. eh?
Well, unfortunately for us, there was always next bound. And the bound after that. And another bound - in fact many many more bounds. And in all of them our level of success was almost exactly the same. Absolutely nil, nada, nothing, zip, sod all, bugger all, nowt, natch, zilch, poo, pants, merde.
Cv(S) in a solid line into LH (F) ? That'll be us taking off fist-fulls of Cv (S) then!
Assyrian Knights optimistically charge towards Sargonid Auxilia in the open.....
The few surviving Knights retreat
skillfully as single elements back over a RGo hill
In an astoundingly bad display of dicemanship, we proceeded to lose just about every single combat we got into.
Kn (S) vs Cv (S) - Oh, shall we just put the Kn (S) back a recoil depth and save the wear on the dice?
Mick's line menaces the Sargonid & Skythian horse, as his psiloi encroach on their flanks
Micks line crumbles to
dust in the face of inferior opposition
Bw (I) prepare to take a Kn (S) chariot charge led by the Sargonid CinC, supported by double ranked Spear (S)
We killed 2 elements.
We lost. 10-0.
We were grateful to get the zero.....
We went to the pub.
Early....
