Stuff I've been painting recently
It's been a while since the last post, so here is a few photos of stuff I've been painting - imagine that, painting wargame figures for Force on Force, WW2, FoG Renaissance and others getting in the way of updating my website! To be fair the FoGR Wiki has also had a bit of input recently, but this is much more significant
20mm Falklands-era Brits from (I think?) S&S, to add to my Matchbox plastic Brits
I'm very happy about how the faces have come out using an ink wash on these boys
28mm Swiss/Landsnecht Halberdiers and swordsmen, as the first base of a 4-wide Swiss/Landsnecht Kiel to turn my 28mm Plastics into a Hugenot or similar army. Picked up from various Bring and Buy stalls, with a few Foundry figures bought in packets too. I think the whole lot will look pretty neat, I just need to get the mix of colours (and whether the white is in the slashes in their clothing, or on top) all sorted. These were finished with Army Painter Dark Tone
It looks really good on the flesh colour on their legs, giving a mix of "dirt" and shading
15mm Old Glory Ottoman Janissaries, with Crossbows and muskets/arquebus. Far more animated than the Essex ones' everyone seems to have, and the first part of an Ottoman amy which will recycle my FoGAM Arab cavalry.
The same chaps, but slightly further away. They look uniform, but they aren't - a real mad bunch
Essex Ottoman artillery pieces with Donnington crew (and officers)
An ornate ECW cannon from Roundway Miniatures, with Donnington Ottoman crew
Old Glory Polish Foote marching with axes and muskets. These might turn out as Russians too methinks. A very quick paintjob drybrushing over a black undercoat
Old Glory Polish Pancerni command (lots of drummers in that pack!) with some carbine-armed horse
The same chaps. Flag downloaded from Nigel Billington's site - this one is also on Alex Flags and is therefore maybe a bit too early but looks good to me!
...and from the side, and slightly blurred...
Polish Pancerni commander base. The General has the horses head decoration in front of his face in this shot, he's not wearing some bizzarre mask
More officer types. This flag is also from Nigel Billington
From the rear the level of detail on the flag is obvious
Spanish Later Tercio, from Old Glory. These come with open hands to add your own pikes.
Square on...
TYW German Foote from Old Glory, done simply and then Army Painter Dark Tone'ed. I also did th ecuffs again (in white) after the wash had finished, to bring them out and brighten the unit up a touch more. A good rag-tag bunch of hooligans !
And again...
Not sure where I got this flag from - but it printed when I was low on yellow ink, so it is a bit too red and black probably...
15mm Japanese for PBI - a quick rebasing and inking job here, for an army I bought from eBay for £40
Simple dipped-in-sand bases enhanced with some rather 28mm scale grass tufts from GreenLine (Fredericus Rex)
The infantry I believe are from LKM/QRF's Japanese range.
They look quite fierce - not sure I actually need to buy any tanks to go with them yet!
Swedish Horse from Old Glory - not sure on the origins of this flag but it has an undressed lady, which appealed to my sense of "Swedishness"
Swedish Horse with swords!
Swedish/Finninsh Horse with a flag from Alex Flags
More Swedish/Finninsh Horse with a flag from Alex Flags
...and from the other side...
