James "Hammy" Hamilton is a ubiquitous presence in the DBx universe, and holds the current record for playing in over 2,723 separate competitions spread across 9 continents in a single year (well, it seems like that anyway). Current president of that respected institution, the IWF, Hammy's encyclopedic knowledge of DBM combat probabilities and official interpretations meant he was destined for greatness from an early age, and at the Greek WIC he cemented his place in history by almost single-handedly being responsible for the GB teams first ever test match defeat. Hammy here gives us a sweeping breadth of mainstream history, scholarly texts and classic and "pulp" Sci-fi, with some stat-tastic cricket for good measure.
I
have been interested in military history and games for as long as I
My first army was Early Imperial Roman, a mixture of Airfix plastics and Hinchliffe metal figures but as the metal figures were so expensive, 12 cost nearly a pound! I had to live with more plastic than I perhaps wanted. The army is long gone but I still have my best friends 25mm Seleucid army from the same era that he sold to me when he emigrated to Singapore.
My favourite army is probably my Swiss, simply because they are really pretty if a touch on the boring side to play

Reach for the sky - Paul
Brickhill.
The amazing story of an amazing man. If it wasn't true and they made a film of Baders life people would not believe it.

Enders
Game - Orson Scott Card Fantastic science fiction, the start of a whole host of related books but the original is still the best.
|
||
Red Storm
Rising - Tom Clancy.
Alternate history meets military
fiction meets thriller. The best Clancy by far IMO

World

||
History
of the Second World War - Winston Churchill If anyone can give the inside gen on WWII it's Winston. A bit of a long read though but worth it

Wisden
Anthology
1978-2006.
This neatly covers the period where I remember cricket unlike the older ones. It also manages to stop on a high note

Vatta's war -
Elizabeth Moon.
Back to Sci-Fi this is a really interesting series that explores a universe where it's not just gadgets but the whole social political background ties in with the technology. (note:
Trading in Danger is the first book in this series)

I have always been into warships and this is in one volume a pretty much definitive list of the ships of the Second World War
