This had been chosen after rejecting the Siamese (Wb option). The theory was that the likely opponents were Cm (S), massed bowmen, and possibly Warband-based armies. The spears/blades & Wb can beat bows, the Bw & Sp and El can beat Cm (S) in combination, and the elephants will be very busy but should be able to cause problems for massed warband. In retrospect I would have probably split the 2 elephants between the two non-warband commands, as they were supposed to be able to operate as a discrete unit in their own right, but more often than not ended up being left behind as the line advanced, and never having the pips to return to the fray.. but if you have 1 practice game, hey !
There is also maybe an argument for concentrating the Sp/Bd more heavily in one command, as many times there weren't quite enough of them to actually get into contact with a massed line of bowmen, as they did suffer quite heavy attrition because of the (I) factors. One other way of dealing with this might have been to have the hill tribe ally general to give the army extra pips and an ability to screen off part of the table with a small command and concentrate the dangerous stuff on a narrower frontage - it would also have given extra flexibility in deployment, which was a problem with a low aggression and deploying just 3 commands first. I tried to mitigate this by hiding 4 Ps from the CinC's (no2) command to even it out element-wise with command 1, but this was only a partial solution.
I had rejected the Regular Generals option as in my view the army would just roll forwards anyway, and I'd prefer 2 extra elephants vs potential Warband opponents, plus 4 extra Ps (I), to having the ability to swap a couple of dice. Having a warband general was pretty neat, as he was very cheap, and could still hold back the Wb for 1 pip if they were in an unfavorable position.

This lot actually added up to a surprisingly big army - which proved difficult to kill.

This was Graham Evans army. Our mutual opinion was that it was pretty rubbish, although he had more right to the opinion than me, having played 3 games with it as opposed to my one game against. however this many Bw (O) in one block are pretty tough.
